Lately, we have seen an uprising of chaos in the world, but it has also been something that many people have unknowingly discerned or heard in the realm of the spirit. In this post, I’m going to discuss using the word of God as a light and compass to remain untouched by the lies and confusion of the enemy.
The Lost Woods
I noticed one day before church that one lie whispered to my soul from the enemy turned into a full-blown attack against my mind. I was having trouble getting ready, thinking, and even having a good attitude for the day. Oftentimes, during moments like this, I have failsafes implemented to help pull me back to a neutral place. As I listened to prophetic music, I felt the worship shift the atmosphere, giving me the leverage to be able to pull on the truth of God, which enabled me to see things as they were and not as the enemy wanted me to.
"God’s high and holy praises fill their mouths, for their shouted praises are their weapons of war!"
Psalms 149:6-7 TPT
It was like I had gotten lost in a mist of lies and confusion, which blurred the narrow pathway of the Lord. Later on, He revealed to me that the way to remain untouched in a climate of chaos and confusion is to stay rooted in the truth of His word and guided by His light, which illuminates our narrow path within Him.
"Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life. Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path."
Psalms 119:101,105 (NLT)
At times, the Lord will bring forth revelation by reminding me of a scene from a movie, TV show, or even a video game that I enjoyed in the past. He compared the attack of the enemy to a quest in one of my favorite games that I used to play: Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In this quest, Link had to journey across a place called “The Lost Woods,” which was gray, full of fog, and seemingly haunted.
The only way to cross this region was to follow the embers of the torch Link was holding. Unlike other regions in the game, there was no navigational system that worked in this region—only the fire.
The Lord is saying to all of the kingdom builders and people of God who are making movements of faith that the light of the Lord, which is His word, is our navigational system! He is calling us to use His word as a torch in a worldly climate of chaos and confusion. Even if we are unsure of which step to take in the darkness, the light of His word will guide our way.
Keeping Away from Sidetracks
Additionally, in the Lost Woods, one step outside of the direction that the embers were directing caused Link to be consumed by the mist and whisked back to the start of the quest. Similarly, the enemy is seeking to cause setbacks that make us take a whole step back or even give up as we are making progress.
"Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil."
Proverbs 4:25-27 (NLT)
In the word, we are guaranteed the promise of success when we fix our eyes on Him and pursue what He has instructed us to do. This is why there has been such an attempted onslaught against the children of God—to stall or sidetrack our forward movement in kingdom endeavors. I want to encourage you today that if you continue to grab ahold of the word of God as your lamp and stay fixed on His narrow path, you will remain untouched and get through the darkest hour, the blurriest days, and the directionless times!
" Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."
Psalm 23:4 (NKJV)
Pulling on the Garments of Truth
In following God and staying laser-focused on what He wants us to do, a great way to put into action “failsafes” to keep us in check with God is to constantly counter any negative thought or offense with the truth of God.
If you’ve been experiencing a wave of negative thinking or feeling as if it is difficult to shake offense, then this is a sign you have been hearing the broadcasts of lies or accusations from the enemy. Sometimes, these thoughts feel like our own thoughts, but they are actually an echo from the accuser of the brethren.
In moments like this, I imagine pulling on His word like the woman with the issue of blood. I take a verse, put all of my faith on it, and confess it out loud as my only option for moving forward. I’ll confess:
"You said I have power, love, and a sound mind, and that I was not given a spirit of fear. All fear is gone because I have your power. All fear is gone because I have your sound mind. You are faithful and true."
Even if I have to sit there and pull on the word over and over again, the end result is that the mental attack has broken into pieces, and clarity returns to me. As I always love to say, some prayers happen immediately, and other prayers take hammering and a fight for breakthrough for the results to manifest in the natural.
My Prayer for You
I pray that everyone reading this will be able to discern their thoughts from the lies of the enemy. I pray that You will show them the pathway of Your will and give them the fortitude to deny all distractions that may arise. I pray for a supernatural level of focus that allows them to succeed in all their kingdom endeavors to come upon them in this season of building and implementing kingdom plans. Let their hunger for the word and for the truth increase and arise! In Jesus’ name.
Let’s keep our torches lit!
