The Year of Building, Restoration, Acceleration, and Focus
In many ways, the Lord has made it known that 2025 is a season of building, restoration, acceleration, and focus. Though we are only a few months into the year, the Lord has already begun to reveal keys of wisdom and revelation that we can grab hold of and implement today! In this post, I will break down the keys of wisdom and strategy found in Nehemiah chapters 4, 5, and 6 and explain how to enter into supernatural focus with the Lord.
Many Sanballats
One night, feeling extremely weary and discouraged, I set aside time to pray and be replenished in the Lord’s presence.
After a long while, I heard the Lord say:
“There will be many Sanballats, but it is all about supernatural focus.”
As I reflected on this word, I was directed to study the story of Nehemiah. This aligned directly with the theme of the year that I had been studying in church. Though I had read this story many times before, I saw the Lord’s strategy and wisdom displayed in a fresh and powerful way.
Keys of Wisdom from Nehemiah
Though Sanballat was an actual historical figure, his actions and movements represent a certain type of attack from the enemy—one that we may encounter in this season of building and completing God-given assignments.
1. Rely on the Lord as Your Protector, Warrior, and Strength
At the start of building, Sanballat and his company openly mocked the Jewish people. Though this may seem petty or even harmless, words carry creative power, and his words were being used to curse their God-given assignment.
“When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he exploded in anger, vilifying the Jews. In the company of his Samaritan cronies and military, he let loose: ‘What are these miserable Jews doing? Do they think they can get everything back to normal overnight? Make building stones out of make-believe?’” — Nehemiah 4:1 (MSG)
The goal of this verbal attack was to intimidate, harass, and discourage at the very start of the building process. However, the Spirit-led solution for Nehemiah was to keep building and pray for every mocking word to fall to the ground. Similarly, we must push forward and rely on the Lord to push back the enemy’s onslaught. This is not a time for us to engage the enemy in a long war—it is a time to rely on God’s Spirit to expose lies, reject them, and keep building. We must understand who we are in Christ, focus on His truth, and cast our burdens onto Him.
“Then I prayed, ‘Hear us, our God, for we are being mocked. May their scoffing fall back on their own heads, and may they themselves become captives in a foreign land!’” — Nehemiah 4:4 (NLT)
2. Paying No Mind to Harassing Spirits
Whenever we gain momentum in a Kingdom-ordained project, the enemy will seek to release a spirit of harassment to wear us down. Signs of this attack include weariness, confusion, and strife—designed to throw us off our focus in the Lord. One of the enemy’s major tactics is to steal our focus from God and redirect it to fear and distraction.
“Then the people of Judah began to complain, ‘The workers are getting tired, and there is so much rubble to be moved. We will never be able to rebuild the wall by ourselves.’ Meanwhile, our enemies were saying, ‘Before they know what’s happening, we will swoop down on them and kill them and end their work.’” — Nehemiah 4:10-11 (NLT)
The Kingdom solution was to place guards in strategic places day and night, ensuring they were prepared for an attack while continuing to build. Likewise, we must rely on the Holy Spirit, standing firm on the Word of God when discouragement arises.
“They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination.” — Nehemiah 6:9 (NLT)
3. Set a Watch Day and Night
Sanballat’s threats were persistent, meant to cause weariness both day and night. However, Psalm 121:6 provides a key principle:
“The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.” — Psalm 121:6 (KJV)
This reminds us that no force of darkness—whether by day or night—can overpower those who stand under the Lord’s protection. Our version of “setting a watch” means guarding our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus, bringing out His Word in times of weakness, stress, or discouragement.
4. Strength in Unity
The strength of Nehemiah’s company was not only in their reliance on the Lord but also in their unity. While each builder had an individual task, they were all contributing to a greater structure. Likewise, though God gives each of us a unique assignment, we are still building as a body for the benefit of others.
“Then I explained to the nobles and officials and all the people, ‘The work is very spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall. When you hear the blast of the trumpet, rush to wherever it is sounding. Then our God will fight for us!’” — Nehemiah 4:19-20 (NLT)
When the Holy Spirit brings someone to mind, ask, “Holy Spirit, is this person on my heart for a reason?” Sometimes, God invites us to stand in the gap for others, praying for their protection and breakthrough.
5. Supernatural Focus
The Lord revealed to me that supernatural focus is a key component to successfully building for His Kingdom. The primary way to enter supernatural focus is by committing our works to Him and praying for His guidance before we begin.
“Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.” — Proverbs 16:3 (NKJV)
When you commit your works and pray to the Lord for guidance in your tasks, you are giving Him the first fruits of your time. Time is actually considered to be a currency to the Lord. It can be given in abundance, restored and redeemed, or shortened, wasted, and stolen. Usually, when I’m about to start a project or complete a task that the Lord has given me this is the first step that I take. You will be amazed at how much of an impact this step makes in helping you move forward!
“See that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil.” — Ephesians 5:16 (NKJV)
“I have heard your prayers, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years.”— Isaiah 38:4 (NKJV)
When we give our time to the Lord, we willingly enter into His appointed time. This time can be described as a special window that the Lord has assigned and anointed for us to do what He has called us to do. The best part is breaking free from toiling under the limitations of your own strength and moving according to the rhythm of God’s glory and spirit, which is is anchored in eternity.
“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” — Habakkuk 2:3 (KJV)
Usually when I am doing this in my own life I will pray a prayer that sounds like this: “Lord, I commit this work and my times to you. I ask that you guide my thoughts, guide my hands, and establish my ways so that I can complete this task in your image and in your way.” Then, by faith I begin whatever He has for me to do.
Sometimes the work will be completed unexpectedly fast, or the physical time will seem to pass by more slowly than usual! When distractions arose in my environment, I still managed to get the task done with grace and ease.
“He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Proverbs 10:4 NKJV
You can discern that you are in a realm of supernatural focus when you’re diligently completing your tasks and things are taking shape and moving forward expeditiously. When we put all of our focus with due diligence in our works, God makes us prosper!
Stay encouraged that all success is available to us when we keep our heart aligned with God.
Prayers and Decrees for Your Building Season:
Let all mocking voices against me fall back to the ground in the name of Jesus. (Nehemiah 4:4)
I cancel every word-curse attack from the accuser of the brethren in the name of Jesus. (Revelation 12:10)
I thank you Lord, for giving me the strength and fortitude to build a structure, and I declare your wisdom and understanding has come upon me to execute your plans and purposes in this earth. Proverbs 2:6
I dedicate my works to you; I ask you for your wisdom and understanding to come upon me now. Highlight the ways you want me to do this task, and give me the revelation necessary to do it the way you see fit. (Proverbs 16:1-3)
Let’s build and keep building!
