Being Proactive
In this season, we have seen unprecedented levels of destruction through storms that have been brewing against certain regions and territories. It is so important that we lean on the Holy Spirit for discernment to determine which storms are purely demonic or naturally occurring. In this post, I will discuss how to discern demonic storms and how you can pray against them.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." (John 10:10 NKJV)
It is not out of character for the enemy to manipulate elements of the weather. We see this as an example in the Gospel of Mark 4:35–41 (NKJV)
"And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, 'Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?' Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, 'Peace, be still!' And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."
This moment in Scripture is a perfect example of the demonic realm manipulating the sea, wind, and waves to cause a harmful outcome for the disciples. However, Jesus, as the Son of Man, stood in His God-given authority to put the demonic powers back in their place.
As believers in Christ, through our faith in Jesus and the infilling of the Holy Spirit, we have the authority to pray against demonic manipulation of the wind, sea, and waves. In such a season where the enemy is seeking to cause mass destruction, mayhem, and desolation, we must stand in our God-given authority by declaring, praying, and interceding for a godly outcome.
Discerning Demonic Storms
One of the most common misconceptions I’ve heard is that God is judging a place, which is why there’s a massive storm or level of destruction. Although God allows certain things to take place on the earth that we don’t understand, it does not remove the fact that Satan is “the god of this world.”
"Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News." (2 Corinthians 4:3-5 NLT)
This means that, unless subdued by the prayers and petitions of the saints, he will try to operate within the world to cause mayhem for the benefit of the demonic kingdom. Over the years, Holy Spirit has allowed me to discern signs that point to a demonic storm. This includes: when the storm’s destruction level is blown out of proportion, abnormally menacing, or destructive beyond nature’s usual bounds.
Another sign is when verbal projections of fear, terror, and casualties circulate the airwaves or the internet. This is one of the enemy’s go-to domains to spread confusion, doubt, and lies. These verbal projections are demonic reports in disguise that gain traction through the agreement of those who hear them. The enemy is powerless unless mankind gives him authority. Agreement is a powerful exchange in the realm of the spirit, and many mouths confirming in faith that a storm is going to be bad empowers the enemy’s plans.
The good news is Jesus gave us all power and all authority to tread upon every demonic report and has empowered us in His name to intercede for demonic reports to be broken.
How to Pray Against Demonic Storms
As Spirit-filled believers, we have authority over lands and territories, and the natural elements within them, just as Jesus did. We see this concept in (Deuteronomy 11:24 NLT)
“Wherever you set foot, that land will be yours. Your frontiers will stretch from the wilderness in the south to Lebanon in the north, and from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.”
This notion of authority still applies to us in the New Testament. The Israelites were given delegated authority to subdue these territories by God, and Jesus granted us eternal rights to subdue the earth through His sacrifice. This means that you can pray over a territory you’ve stepped in or visited as if you live there. These prayers target specific regional plans and command the enemy to redirect his ways.
Example Prayers:
I command every spirit of destruction to be subdued in Jesus’ name.
I loose the angels to disband every force of wickedness and destructive spirits in the wind, rain, and sea.
I call forth Your peace to override all forces of destruction against this land and declare that the plans of the enemy will not prosper.
What If I Have Not Been to a Certain Region, Land, or Territory?
The Holy Spirit has shown me that even if I haven’t stepped foot into a place, I can still make petitions and decrees asking for the Lord to shift and remove wicked powers, structures, and operations behind a storm or natural disaster. In this case, asking the Lord to intercede is well within my boundaries of authority.
Example Prayers:
Lord, I ask You to shoot down every plan of the enemy to destroy and bring mayhem.
I declare that the demonic report of the enemy will not prosper.
I ask You, Lord, to pour out Your peace and to knock down the plans of the enemy to kill, steal, and destroy.
I speak forth Your word that says that a thousand shall fall at their side, ten thousand at their right hand, but no evil shall come near them. (Psalm 91)
Rely on the Spirit
Each time before I pray in English, I usually do a session of praying in tongues. I cannot stress enough how effective praying in tongues is, not only to edify my spirit but also to allow the flow of the Holy Spirit to take over the prayer session. Whenever I feel that the situation at hand is pressing or even intimidating, I rely on Him to give me the words I need to release accurate prayers that hit the target. His prayers are always perfect prayers.
Once I feel the flow of His rivers and His Spirit, revelation begins to break open. Prayer points become downloaded into my spirit, and the English decrees flow one after the other. This is something that I practiced over and over until I grew accustomed to praying in this pattern, even in my personal prayer times. I am confident that if you try this method of prayer, you too will flow in a deep prophetic realm and intercede with precision.
My Prayer For You
Lord, I ask You to strengthen the reader in their discernment of the times, seasons, and signs in the sky. I’m asking You to bestow upon them burdens to pray when necessary to push forth Your agendas in the earth, and to give them revelation, wisdom, and understanding as they pray. Let Your prayer points be prayed forth with fidelity, in Jesus’ name.
Amen!
