Doors in the Heavenlies
As we were approaching the Hebrew year 5784, I saw doors interwoven in the clouds. Clouded archways would appear showing clear skies on the other side. Rays of sunlight pierced through the archways radiating a heavenly glow.
These surreal archways were a sign for what we were heading into this year: open doors for those who are willing to knock.
For weeks after I saw those doorways, thoughts of my past life living apart from God bombarded my memory as well as the atmosphere. Accusations and whispers filled my spiritual ears, seeking to choke the voice of God. These voices were trying to get me to agree that I was not redeemed or delivered from past sins so that they could mobilize devils against me and cause patterns to occur.
Just as the Lord is opening up an amazing opportunity to walk in greater levels of intimacy with Him, the enemy is waiting like a fox seeking to trick the children of God into walking through demonic doorways.
I sought the Lord for a deeper revelation to understand the nature of the open doors for the year and the demonic counterattack.
As soon as I focused on his voice on my subway ride to work I heard him say “Read Psalm 24”.
Psalm 24 is a Map for the Year
In a fell swoop, Prophetic voices have been declaring that this is the year of the open door. Notably, Prophet Charlie Shamp from Destiny Encounters also prophesied that the verse for this year is Psalm 24.
The Holy Spirit revealed that the psalm is a key that unlocks greater dimensions of intimacy with the Lord. I knew there was a hidden key, a recipe from the Lord for how to go about this year. And so I studied Psalm 24 in more depth than ever before. To me, the words on the page looked like they were alive, and moving with a purpose like a map.
The Lord revealed that Psalm 24 is a map to his Holy Mountain. Within the verses are hidden mysteries on how to cultivate a deeper connection with God and enter into the secret place.
As I studied, I noticed that the entire psalm is three verses, which spoke of a certain intentionality of the Spirit. The number three represents completion, resurrection and divine connection.God wants to take us on a journey that will lead to divine treasures. A journey that will change our lives forever!
Pathway to the Holy Mountain
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.
For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.”
(Psalms 24:1-2 NLT)
Before we climb up to the Lord’s Holy Place, we have to acknowledge that the Lord is sovereign, and that no matter what is going on in the Earth, He owns it all. In these times of shaking and uncertainty it is important to remember who truly has all authority and all power.
We have to understand that the attacks of the enemy are not more powerful than God, His governing forces, and angel armies.
The Invitation
“Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?
Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies.”
Psalms 24:3-4
These two lines in this verse are phrased as questions, which break the fourth wall and address an unseen audience for future time. These questions are a sweet summoning of the Spirit of the Lord to those who would choose to dwell in the secret place! At the same time, it is a guideline for accepting the invitation.
In order to stand in His Holy Place, the Lord is drawing us into deeper levels of consecration this year. For me, this looks like devoting time to prioritize prayer on days off from work, and to spend time tarrying in His presence. It looks like consuming the word of God as if I were binge watching a Netflix show, and enjoying living off of His consistent renewal.
Likewise, the word “stand” in Hebrew is the word “Qum”. One of its definitions is “to endure, be fulfilled, and proven.”
The Lord wants us to be able to withstand our journey to the holy mountain and to dwell in His presence for longer periods of time.
To tarry with him requires a level of endurance that comes from being in a state of repentance, consistently denying ourselves, asking the Lord to rip down any idols or things seeking to be raised up in our hearts. In this place of surrender and intimacy, He will fill us with His purposes, plans and desires. This will prepare our hearts to voyage in the climb up His Holy Mountain.
Even in the natural realm, professional climbers have to prepare. To do this they consistently build the endurance and strength necessary to succeed.
The Right Relationship
”He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of His salvation.
This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah
Psalms 24:5-6 NKJV
I like how the New King James Verstion translation specifies that we will receive blessings and righteousness when we choose to pursue the presence of the Lord. He is calling us to become even more engrafted into Him this year and as a result His divine characteristics will shine through us to the world at a greater capacity.
This journey to the Holy Mountain will become a continual existence that overflows into our daily lives. As we make sacrifices to spend time in His presence, the Lord is further drawing the line between those who are holding onto His garments, and those who are not.
Just like salt makes the wick brighter, the Lord will reveal His true bride, as we step into realms of greater influence and authority in the Earth.
Doors and Gates
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
As I read this chapter I was utterly fascinated by the concept of David requesting both gates and doors to be opened. I thought “Aren't they almost the same thing?” The Holy Spirit revealed that there was a true significance of what David was requesting.
Although gates and doors both are entryways, they have different meanings.
The Hebrew word for gate is “Shah’-ar”, and is associated with the entrance of a city, or royal city.
“And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground” (Genesis 19:1 KJV)
I believe that the overflow of the sacrifices that we make this year to spend time with the Lord will overflow not only into a our personal lives, but into our neighborhoods, spheres of influence, and cities.
The Lord is always searching the Earth for righteous people, so that He can use them for His glory. When the Lord is invited into our homes, His glory opens up the right doorways around us. His glory isn’t just contained in our home, but breathes outward bringing life and light to even the darkest places.
Likewise, the Hebrew word for door is “pethach”.
This word is synonymous with an opening for an encounter, for godly and ungodly encounters.
When we think of a door in the natural realm, it is an entryway that leads to a room or series of rooms. In the spirit realm, doors are active and can open to godly and ungodly realms.
“ If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” (Genesis 4:7)
As I mentioned previously, while the Lord is opening heavenly doors, the enemy is crouching at the door of godly encounters like a sneaky fox ready to steal our attention away.
Crouching at the Door
The Lord showed me in a vision the complete opposite of a divine doorway. Instead, I saw black ancient archways with a door attached. The doors swung open backwards, revealing an infinite demonic reflection of one door after another leading down into a black and purple abyss.
I believe that the doors opened backwards because the enemy is seeking to set us backwards in our walk with the Lord by pressuring us to dwell on the sins of the past and mistakes we made as “the old man”.
For me this has manifested as the enemy using people to repeat past situations. These are things that the old me would get frustrated by, or preoccupied with. However, in prayer, I’ve come against all demonic re-runs of past situations and continually stay abreast when I see any manifestation of it trying to play out.
I thank God that there is nothing truly hidden in His sight, and that He reveals what is needed for us to move forward in victory!
As new creatures in Christ, we have been set free from the ways of the old person that we were. So it is our legal right in the spirit to reject any attack that seeks to accuse us of being unsaved or unredeemed.
”We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.“
Romans 6:6 NLT
How to Stay On Guard
To stay on guard against this attack we have to be aware of the thoughts we are having about ourselves concerning the past. Any condemning thoughts about what we did, or should have done is playing into the accusations against us.
”So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.“
Romans 8:1 NLT
It is also important to safeguard our souls by being careful about the people that we allow into our lives. When we get into a mode of consecration and pursuit of God, a classic attack from the enemy is to distract us by using people around us to throw us off course.
The Lord is merciful, and cares about every detail of our lives. Oftentimes, he will warn us about people who are being used, or will be used by the enemy to get to us. All we have to do is listen, discern, and pray.
More importantly, we have to continue to press into God no matter what is going on and continue our pursuit of God!
”Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle.“
Psalms 24:8 NLT
Just like David we have to continue to seek the Lord and ask Him to reveal deeper layers of who He is to us. In this consistent pursuit He will reward us by showing us How strong and mighty He is in our lives against every adversary, attack, and distraction.
There is no demonic cycle that we aren’t already delivered from. No twisted iniquity that wasn’t broken on the cross.
It is time to seek the Lord like never before, and to prepare ourselves for an adventure that we will never forget.
